Wow. Where did she ever say she thought she was more deserving?? That's quite a straw man you've got there. I read her to say that it's frustrating to her that people sign up so half-heartedly for something she greatly desires. She also said it wasn't personal.
I think that feeling is pretty easy to identify with. If you've ever had someone take for granted, or treat cavalierly that which you hold dear, you should be able to sympathize.
