While this is true, I know a lot of Jewish Johns and some Jewish Matthews.
I think the question is will you feel defensive about it or do you want to spare him that. I have a non-Jewish sounding first and last name and people at synagogue routinely assume I am a non-Jewish spouse. It gets old fast. I named my kids much more Jewish sounding names so they wouldn’t stand out like I always have. On the other hand, I “pass” easily. No one knows I am Jewish unless I tell them.
If your last name is fairly Jewish, maybe fine to go with Luke. If it’s not, then just consider whether you or he will be bothered when people assume he’s Christian. My sister had never minded as much as I do - may be hard to predict.
