Why wouldn’t you go with something biblical but more traditionally Jewish - Levi, Ezra, Noah, Jacob, etc. all come to mind.

“Luke, I am your father.” He will hear this all the time.

I know Jewish couple whom named their son Matthew.

My husband’s name is Luke and we’re… still Jewish.

It would be very weird.

I mean, Luke is a gospel. And as someone else mentioned, it's the gentile-focused gospel.

Don't do this. I dated a guy with a very Christian name and I didnt learn till 8 months in he was Jewish. It turns out that his family would only accept a Jewish wife and gave him hell for dating me. Stupid family for naming their kid a Christian name.

Just find another name you like.

While this is true, I know a lot of Jewish Johns and some Jewish Matthews.

I think the question is will you feel defensive about it or do you want to spare him that. I have a non-Jewish sounding first and last name and people at synagogue routinely assume I am a non-Jewish spouse. It gets old fast. I named my kids much more Jewish sounding names so they wouldn’t stand out like I always have. On the other hand, I “pass” easily. No one knows I am Jewish unless I tell them.

If your last name is fairly Jewish, maybe fine to go with Luke. If it’s not, then just consider whether you or he will be bothered when people assume he’s Christian. My sister had never minded as much as I do - may be hard to predict.

I think it's too Christian. Luke was the Gentile among the Gospels. Anyone who knows that history may think it's weird. Most people will think Skywalker, though.

I'd add Magdalena, Jesus, Peter and Paul to the list of "New Testamenty" names. But I'd skip all of them.

Don't be ridiculous! Go for it, if you love the name, no one will think twice about it!!
