I love anything that Mo Willems writes. There is the Knuffle Bunny series, Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, and the Piggy and Gerald series.

I HATE Goodnight Moon. Scared me as a kid - don't see why it's so popular.

I immediately thought of Goodnight Gorilla and Monster at the End of this Book. I see they've already made the list. Where is Baby's Bellybutton is also a really good one - looks so simple and plain, but toddlers LOVE it.

BTW - there's a Monster at the End of this Book app I saw on a friend's iPad that was fantastic.

The seek and find books (they make a jr one that my son liked at around age 2)

The problem with Goodnight Moon is that it is so popular, you'll probably end up with 5 copies at the book swap. I try to shy away from titles like that, that I think will be duplicated. Same with the more well-known Dr. Seuss books like "Cat in the Hat", "Green Eggs and Ham", "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish", "Fox in Socks" and "Hop on Pop."

I got a lot of books at my shower - loved them, and probably wouldn't have thought to buy them myself.

If you have the time, scouring Value VIllage or other used book stores works really well for children's books. SOmetimes you can find books in near mint condition. And another vote for Marshalls - definitely the place for board books especially.
