I like Skippy Natural, it is probably similar to Jiff Natural. It does have sugar, but only 3g. And palm oil instead of hydrogenated soybean oil. (which I am also more concerned about that than sugar). I want to try the WF organics now though with all the recommendations!

Have you ever made it at home? I buy unsalted roasted peanuts and put them in the food processor with a little oil and salt. It takes a couple minutes to become nutbutter. Its fun, cheap, and the kids like to watch. Kept in the fridge, there is very little oil separation - although I suppose that would vary based on your nuts, how long you process it, etc.

6:19 again. I use WF or one of the other no-sugar, no-oil brands, but Smart Balance seems to work well as a "transitional" peanut butter for some families. I use 100% fruit spread too, not jam or jelly. I think I use St. Dalfour.

Anonymous wrote:Maybe you could compromise with the Smart Balance brand of PB - it does contain sugar but the ingredient label isn't too bad (mostly peanuts and oil). Plus it's very spreadable and much creamier than Crazy Richard-type brands.

This is the happy medium. You really don't want the hydrogenated oils in standard peanut butters. They're worse than the sugar, to me.

I love Jif and don't have any major issues giving it to kids. Lately though I've been reconsidering my consumption of tropical oils (or whatever it is in them that's so unhealthy. I don't care about the sugar.) and all shelf stable peanut butter has them (or at least the ones whose labels I checked did.) Anyway I started using the grinder at the grocery store and I really like the peanut butter that is made right there on the spot. It's not really shelf stable but the taste is fantastic so it's worth it. I get a small container of it each week and it's pretty cheap and good.

+1

There's NO need to use pb with sugar in it. I hate dealing wi the oil of natural pb, so brands like the WF brand are perfect.
