Post 03/12/2012 08:46     Subject: Why stay in DC when none (yes, including upper NW schools) seem to compare to Arlington?????????????

My two-mom family is considered second-class in the Commonwealth of Virginia. So what if Arlington thinks we are a regular family? We can't even protect ourselves because of the laws VA has passed.

There are many considerations about why a family should live in a particular place. To narrow it to one is asinine.

And 08:39, have you ever heard of sarcasm?

Because cities matter. They're important. My son is a native Washingtonian. I want him to be one of the people who helps to sustain this great city.

OP, if you have evidence that Arlington offers better educational opportunities for every single child, please elaborate. If not, it's like asking, "Since rocks provide complete nutrition, why do you bother with grocery shopping?"

THIS. A few years ago I would have said this as more of a political statement, but after having to terminate a pregnancy for medical reasons, I would truly never consider moving to Virginia with the sickening laws they are passing.

Dc isnt a state

Neither is Virginia, it is a commonwealth.

How are either of these points relevant?
so virginia wasn't supposed to hold a state fair or design state quarters? virginia state university needs to rethink itself?

The point is that the status (state, territory, commonwealth, whatever) of DC and Virginia seems irrelevant to this conversation.

Because I disagree that Arlington schools are better than the DCPS my kids attend. If I left for better schools, it wouldn't be to Arlington or anywhere in Virginia.
