I rarely post on FB because I am not the type to post mundane details about my life. However, were I lucky enough to go on a vacation somewhere, THEN I would feel there is something worth posting about!

What do you post about on FB? Let me guess - you don't use any social media. I post about my workout and diet to, get this, get support from my friends. What should I post about, IYO?

I agree with this. Plus I moved a lot and I doubt people I know in LA or NY would bother coming down here to rob me. Besides DH never goes on vacation with us so our large dog is still here.

Why do you post on an anonymous messageboard criticizing what other people do or do not share? WTF cares? Clearly you do not understand one of the main functions of social media. It doesn't have to be useful or helpful - that's not always the point.

You must be younger than 35. I don't even take any smartphone or computer on vacation with me.

I think OP's point isn't that no one should post vacation pictures. Of course some people will enjoy seeing some of those pics. The question is why do people do that during the trip when one would hope there are better things to do. I can see the rationale some PPs have pointed to (that they actually have some free time during the vacation unlike real life, or quiet time at hotel while kids nap or go to bed early). Nonetheless, no way am I spending my vacation time posting on FB. Sitting and staring out at the water or reading a trash book would be a better use of time.

I think people who don't post their FB pics on vacation are bragging -- "look how important I am, I have such wonderful vacations I don't have 10 seconds to post a pic of the kids for Grandma, not to mention I am so important and my house is so amazing and full of $$ artifacts that people stalk my FB page in order to ransack it"...

hah, people judge EVERYTHING! If I am in Mexico sitting on the beach, my parents and cousins want to see photos. THe same device that takes the photo uploads it to facebook.

I also think as others mentioned it's an invite to burgalers. I find the narcissists i know IRL are the same on FB and the down to earthers are the often the same as well. I think if you are posting to close friends anything goes because they are your peeps. if you have 400 FB friends it's obnoxious and to those of you say block or delete us...don't worry..we do!

Because hotels are boring and even on the most exciting vacations we retreat to one each evening and need quiet activities while the kids are asleep. Besides, it takes almost no time at all and if we wait until we get home there are a million things competing for our time.

And assuming you trust your friends, what are the odds that the random hacker finds your FB status and can figure out where you live? I don't have my "hometown" or anything that remotely would suggest in what part of the world I live.
