You're in the right here. Why wouldn't he just get you a clean plate?

funny aside: my father does such a thorough job of rinsing dishes before he puts them in the dishwasher that i always have to ask whether the dishes in there are clean or dirty because you can't tell from looking at them.

OP here. Sorry, not likely, I would think. I'm pretty laid back. DH is, by his own admission, very Type A, and has always told me that he likes how I'm much more of an uncritical and relaxed person than he is.

I don't think that every little thing is a symptom of something deeper. I chalk this whole dirty plate issue to how he was raised. Dishes at my IL's home are often a little crusty or dirty. They're more in the "throw crusty dishes haphazardly into the dishwasher, and if they come out still dirty, that's okay" philosophy. They're pretty awesome people, so I can deal with it when I'm at their house.

Sometimes a dirty dish is just a dirty dish, PP.

I'm a filthy, filthy beast, but I side with the OP. Your husband is definitely overreacting.

The germaphobes of DCUM would die if they knew my cleanliness habits (or lack thereof), but not even I, 10:47 of the House of Filth, would eat from a dirty dish grabbed from the dishwasher.

I think that he feels from time to time that you do act like he can't do things right. It is clear - from this small interaction. I agree that eating from a dirty dish is gross - I think the fact that he quickly jumped to the conclusion that this meant that you think he can't do anything right means he feels that way -and this just happens to be when his feelings came to the surface.

In the future - I would try to control how he does things less- even if they aren't how you do things.
Good Luck.

I keep one for counter cleaning (it never touches the floor though) and another one for dishes only.

I'd never wash dishes with a sponge I used to wipe the counter... YUCK!

same

I thought this was just common sense. I guess not.

Wow. You thought this was worth your overwrought op?
