YES. I posted a few things upthread, but this captures it. DH and I would like to in a small town, with great proximity to the big city. We believe we've found it here.

I agree completely with all of the positive things said about Glover Park, but do admit that our main strip could stand to be a little more vibrant. Hopefully the liquor moratorium will be lifted and will attract better restaurants (but trust me, I do NOT want our neighborhood to turn into Clarendon, ew). I do have to say that living here also has the downsides of living in a small town, there are a few choice total control freak NIMBY types that are really annoying (and of course the vocal people always get their way).

God, I wish the OP had just titled her post "What's Great About Glover Park?" This non-stop barrage of defensive posts is so unnecessary. She already said that she's spent some time in GP but doesn't know it all that well.

Do you mean Bistro Lepic in Georgetown/Burleith?

Another GP'er here. Yes, that's what she means I'm sure. I live on W St in GP and Bistro Lepic, Divan, the new Safeway, all that stuff, is totally walkable from my street. Just a quick jaunt down W, over to Whitehaven, and we're there.

Glover Park resident - agree with all the PP's listing all of the neighborhood's great features. I love walking 1 block to Whole Foods, 3 blocks to the amazing new Safeway, Dupont is a very quick zip down Mass Ave, Georgetown is a 10 minute walk, tree-lined streets, Bistro L'Epic is the perfect wine bar. Also- as a former Dupont/U Street resident I have to disagree that parking is terrible - you've clearly never lived in my former 'hood!

GP resident here. I really like living here, for a lot of the reasons the other people mentioned -- very green, safe, quick commute to downtown (plus easy access to Wisconsin, Mass, RCP, Whitehaven, and MacArthur) or other areas of the city (as well as National Airport). LOVE being able to walk to WF and CVS, esp in the summer, plus a brand new Safeway is very close by. Also Surfside, Max's Ice Cream, Kavanaugh's for pizza, etc. Great park (and I can swing by Starbucks on the way), plus Stoddert's brand new playgrounds.

The best thing, though, is the neighbors. There are tons of other families with kids. In the summer evenings, I just take DS out on our front steps and there are always at least a handful of other young kids around. Parents chat; kids play; it's lovely.

Cons are that parking is terrible, the backyards tend to be small (if at all), and the houses are quite small. (It seems like a lot of the families that stay with older kids are foreign families where smaller housing is the norm.) We don't have issues with students partying, but maybe other blocks do. Metro proximity might be nice, but we'd probably be priced out of the Metro were closer. I also wish we had a library within walking distance.

Sure, it could be a bit more lively. But then it would probably be more crowded, higher crime, etc. GP is cozy, familiar, and friendly and I feel very lucky to have found such a great place.

Poster must have an issue with places with multiple bus routes, not 1 subway line...
