Anti YY troll.

I suspect the same is true of the other charters.

Ex-Stokes Parent? Sounds to me as though you had a child that did not get in.
I don't have a child in the school (although I would love to) but I do conduct thorough research. My understanding is that the Board is extremely committed and active. There are even sub committees of the board composed of experts in education, business and fundraising that also work hard to ensure continued academic rigor and financial vitality. This is why they have over a decade of proven success and their own building. This is highly unlikely with a "checked out and uninterested" board.
At any rate, I hope that a school like Stokes does take their time deciding to partner with Yu Ying (need I say anything--check the threads) and Mundo Verde (a school with NO track record). If I were the Board, I would take time to consider the pros and cons. Good move Stokes!
Before you get too snarky, you might keep in mind which school not only created this vision, but also found 100,000 sq. ft. in which to do it.
My dear, the idea is not novel.

Mary Macleod Bethune: 100% low income
DC Bilingual: 84.7% low income
Stokes is also heavily loaded with low income families, but still does well. I don't know about Mundo Verde because they are still new.
Read the original post from the Stokes principal. Her point is that Stokes is probably will not be part of this because their asinine board hasn't approved moving forward with a Charter school. I don't get why Stokes parents are not rioting in the halls. So glad I left that school for Deal.
Really? My impression was that she was very interested and pleased to pass along the news, and is waiting on the board (really of all the schools) to figure out all the details. It would be extremely foolish to announce this to parents without any genuine intention of following through.

they were trying to steal the name? cos there is already a Washington International SchoolAnonymous wrote:Is this charter anyhow related to the Washington International School that submitted the original charter that was totally redrafted to eventually become Yu Ying? That school was a scary proposal that basically desired a private school for upper middle class kids (no core subject remedial or second language assistance and little if any provision for special ed) on the taxpayer's dime.

Bethune already goes thru 8th grade and is only immersion thru 2nd grade-- not the same model as Stokes, LAMB, etc. I agree that DC Bilingual should be in the group as they only go up to 5th grade and is an bilingual immersion school.
