My MIL staged a dramatic public suicide attempt when it was time to catch a flight to attend our wedding, hoping to prevent the ceremony.

My MIL pretends to be Switzerland when in reality she is Satan himself.

Anything to appear she has the ABSOLUTE WORST (NO REALLY) DIL to the bridge cronies. Talk about LOL! Talk about angry f*ck! I wish you peace, OP.

Totally agree.

Constantly calls to tell me she is praying for me and my liberal beliefs and that she hopes I've let the lord into my heart

Gossips about me relentlessly to the rest of DH family about how "rich" my family is (not true) and how my lifestyle expectations are running us into "crippling debt". (not true)

That said, I do think she is will intentioned, if irritating. And hey, I'm a gossip too.

She makes jokes about my mom to my kids. She implies that my parents and sister are poor. She does not like it when others compliment me. She raves about her other son's wife.

Called me an Aryan. DH and his family are Jewish.

White, hated DIL here - feel compelled to note that the hate started before she met me with "Why does she have to be white?" She also said MY family was likely racist. WTH?

I actually don't mind her being out of our lives, neither does DH, or so he says.

My MIL asked me to have lunch with her so she could tell me that the philandering of son, (whom I had decided to divorce) was MY fault.

Her marriage broke up because BOTH she AND her husband cheated.

My MIL means well but she is a total idiot who always says the wrong things. When we told her that we were expecting our first she responded with "was it planned". When we told her about the second she responded with "are you sure you are ready for this". These are just two of many many examples.

When I was pregnant, Dh and I really wanted to name the baby "Janet" (not real name) if it was a girl. MIL flipped out because when Dh was in high school (LONG time ago!!!) he dated a girl named "Janice" (not the same name, but pretty close and possibility of same nickname) and she thought "EVERYONE will think you named the baby after her!" (Everyone who? Dh doesn't really keep in contact with those people, we lived hundreds of miles away from that town, etc).

Anyway, she ended up buying a goat--yes, a goat!--and named it "Janet" and said "There. Now, you don't want to name your baby after a goat, do you?"

As it turned out, the baby was a boy, so we didn't name him Janet but still...
