I think that says a fair bit more about gay Libertarians, that they espouse a political philosophy that is against government interference in people's liberty, and yet they tolerate it in the most private aspects of their own lives. It seems more in line with closeted gay congressmen who vote anti-gay. Those stories don't end well, do they? But hey, I guess reduced business regulation is worth voting for a guy who thinks you are a perversion of nature once in a while.

I think prioritizing their interests that way is a little strange, but I'm more struck by how much such a person has constrained himself within the two parties. If you want less economic regulation and less anti-gay legislation, it's pretty much a no-brainer to vote for a true Libertarian candidate.

Opportunity to do what? Sell out even more? They've spent the last 20 years moving further and further to the right to exploit more of those wonderful opportunities.

The Dems are economic conservatives, by some definitions. E.g., Obama is somewhere between Reagan and W - low taxes on the rich, massive deficits, increasing maldistribution of wealth.

By other (preferable, IMO) definitions, massive deficit spending isn't economically conservative, but then the Dems have been more economically conservative over the last few decades. Do your friends know who was the only president to balance the budget in the last 30 years?

By either definition, your friends should have no problem with the Dems. Were they concerned about W's deficits? I suspect not, which means if they're bitching about them now they're just as full as it as the TPers.

I can find you a black man who supported the Jesse Helms campaigns. That doesn't tell me anything.
