I generally don't care about specific brands, except for Jif Peanut Butter and Heinz ketchup. Growing up with those made them the definitive version of those foods for me.

Yeh, and it's only $7US for a jar. Not a practical choice for people making sandwiches for kids in America. And it's all sugar and chocolate with hazelnut flavor added. Why not just give them a cake icing sandwich and be done with it?

This is DCUrbanMom.... did you ever read the income threads here? I am sure 95% of people here can afford to pay U$7.00 for a jar of crap. Yes, nutella is delicious, but it is crap. And so it is peanut butter. Yuck!

Hey, grumpy gus, lighten up. This was a fun thread to read.

My local healthway store makes it right in front of me. My kids love it and it can't get more natural than that.

I prefer Justin's almond butter as well as the Barney Butter almond butter (crunchy). Has more protein and more EFAs than PB. I prefer the taste to PB.

Justin's nut butters:

have chocolate versions that I really like and much less sugar than Nutella. I have to say though, I can't buy nutella b/c I would eat the whole container with a spoon!

Make it at home like a PP said.

We buy the big conainers of peanuts at Costco, put them in the Vitamix with a little oil (your choice - but also not really necessary) and grind away for about 4-5 minutes. Makes the most yummy peanut butter. Then we store it in a glass jar in the fridge.

I lived on this and good jelly and whole wheat bread when I was in college. It is still my go to favorite brand to eat straight out of the jar: SMUCKER'S--with extra SMUCK

Smucker's natural creamy or wegman's natural creamy, trader joe's almond butter, any jar of nutella even the unknown european brands.

I am still curious- how does one have a "bad" experience with PB. Aside from an allergic reaction?

It does take a bit to adjust to the taste difference if youhave been eating skippy or jif or any other brand of regular pb. You can also add stevia or honey if you want sweetness. Once you switch if you try the regular kind again you will just taste the oil and the chemical preservatives.

My favorites: Safeway O Organics Old Fashioned PB; Whole Foods 365; Trader Joe's. All very smooth texture (not grainy) and have enough salt. I store these upside down in the pantry until I open them. Makes the initial stirring a bit easier.

My daughter prefers Skippy Natural. It has sugar, but not corn syrup and I think it is free of trans-fats. It also does not need to be stirred or kept in the fridge.

I grew up on Skippy and preferred it to Jif, which was my brother's fave. Now they both taste like plastic to me. Bleh.
