This thread is making me miss my cat, who died in August. He slept in bed with us, and when he wanted to be patted he'd wake me up by licking my eyelids. Ah well. I guess if you get pets you get them and if you don't you don't. We do not however let the 150 pound dog sleep in the bed however. No room!

We sleep with our cats but they aren't dirty at all. They are indoor only cats. Fur, shedding, litter bits in the bed--doesn't bother me. I wouldn't sleep with them if they were outdoor cats. Nor would I sleep with a dog. Not because the animal is dirty or sheds but because of all the crap they track in from outside on their paws. I haven't changed the sheets in over 6 months. I know that's nasty.

OP, do I ask you who you sleep with or if you bring home fleas or worse? Don't go there.

Lol, so true, my pugs cannot lick themselves! My pugs are not gross! They get weekly brushes and baths. They actually sleep on top of the duvet cover and have their own blankets. I prefer them to most people Love how the pug people have hijacked this thread. Obey the pug. Drop bones not bombs. FYI my older male disabled pug is always trying to lick the younger females coochie...lol

NP here, also with 2 pugs! and of course they sleep on our bed, or -- put down your hot drinks, those of you biddies who are so easily repulsed, lest you spill -- they sleep anywhere they want. Sometimes, the older one passes out on my child's pillow!!!!!!!!!! The one he sleeps on at night!!!!!!!!!!!

I know this is shocking, but before you call CPS you should know this: it's anatomically impossible for a Pug to lean over and lick his own balls or butt. So this free-for-all with the pugs on beds is not as debased as you imagine.

Yes, but they really are gross. They blow snot everywhere and they can't reach their genitals to clean them so they stink!!

Now that I actually do think is gross, but not gross enough to stop it because the dog and toddler are both so happy!

Had animals in the past. Never allowed them to sleep on furniture or my bed. Not for germ reasons, but because dogs need to know that they aren't "equal" with their masters. Frankly, it confuses the dog when they don't know their proper pecking order in a family.

We have a miniature poodle that sleeps in bed with us and has ever since he was a puppy. He doesn't shed and most of the time, I don't even notice he is there. We used a local dog trainer that is actually mentioned and recommended on these boards all the time. He said letting the dog sleep in bed has absolutely no bearing whatsoever on pack leadership or training as long as you invite the dog up, not the dog just jumping up. It should be on your terms not thiers. Which is what we do. We have a happy, well adjusted pup.

My dod does sometimes. Neither of us are pack leader and I don't feel like it messes with the general training. He has a special blanket that he sleeps on at my feet and that gets washed along with the sheets.

He's a long-haired dog and there is dog hair all over my house, even in my bed when he's not slept in it. This is life with a dog that sheds and I'm ok with trading a few dog hairs for a decade or so of companionship and loyalty. My children are far more dirty and germy. My dog has never given me the flu, strep or even a cold. Only when you have been invited to sleep in my bed will I give a shit about your opinion of the cleanliness of it.
