The problem with BASIS is that they would like to present themselves as selective when that is completely illegal. It doesn't really matter how much they want to prep for AP courses; their 5th grade students are going to be reading at a 2nd grade level and they're still legally required to educate them instead of trying to counsel them out. They might as well want to teach quantum physics to pre-schoolers. Charter schools in DC face different challenges from charter schools in (college town, kids of professors) Tucson. Even poor and uneducated families know how to enroll in one here.
