Do you live in DC? If you are working or in school 20 hours a week or more (has to be Monday through Friday during the day) and you are below the yearly income cut-off then you should be eligible for a voucher.
Maximum incomes for voucher eligibility are as follows:
Family size of 2 - $36,425
Family size of 3 -$45,775
Family size of 4 - $55,125
Family size of 5 - $64,475

It is also a catch 22 - you can't get a job (apply/interview/etc) without some form of childcare - and you can't get a voucher without a job/school. It would be helpful, if you got X amount of hours per month to apply/interview.

to receive a daycare voucher, you must be employed or enrolled in school. Some people go as far as enrolling in free job training classes to get the vouchers and never go! Now thats the worst!

... and what are the needs for yourchild? If your child has significant needs, I would look at a place like Easter Seals in Columbia Heights.

It's sad that people can get vouchers to sit at home. I work and go to school and do not qualify. People wonder why individuals stay on welfare for generations. It's to easy. The system Is not set up to assist the middle class.

I think you have to wait until the baby is here before you apply for a voucher, but you can (and should) put your name on a waitlist for childcare centers now. Good luck!
