Why do we think hitting our children "for their own benefit" is acceptable? If hitting this girl was ok, why not hit your spouse when you want to convey that what he did was wrong and dangerous (suppose he drives home after having one too many). YEAH! you'd go to jail!!!

Yes, I spanked them when they were younger. Usually with a swat on the behind. When you enforce discipline early, children learn the parameters of what is good and unacceptable behavior.

Not all children respond the same to all forms of discipline. Spanking was never my first disciplinary option....not sure why you're presuming otherwise (is it to support your faux outrage, again?).

I was spanked with a belt as a child. Hold no ill thoughts towards my Mom, am not afraid of her and respect her totally. Some folks will curse and be plain disrespectful in front of their parents when they reach adulthood; I would never disrespect my mother in that way.

Yeah, keep telling yourself that hitting a teenager with a belt is perfectly fine behavior. That hitting anybody (much less a CHILD) with a belt, no matter the reason, is fine. It doesn't matter if it is accompanied by swearing...IT. IS. WRONG.

While I can maybe understand open hand spanking as a last ditch discipline measure, BELTING your child serves no legitimate purpose other than to cause severe physical pain. And emotional distress.

My outrage isn't "faux". It is real. If you are gross enough to beat your children with a belt, at least be smart enough to keep it to yourself.

She did not steal, did you also realize that she is disabled? She used the internet without permission. BTW that is not spanking. A spanking would have been like this. I'm generally ok with spanking within strict parameters: serious behavior problem that could harm a young child if uncorrected, tried other forms of discipline first, parent shows no anger (and makes clear how much they do not want to have to do this), bare hand (no belts or whips), obviously no yelling etc.

This was abuse and is 100% unacceptable.
