And another note today "X will be bringing home his classwork he did not finish today. He had a hard time staying focused...etc." Regretfully we had to reschedule his Developmental Appt. for insurance reasons (insurance switch, deductible issues) and now cannot wait until the appointment on 1/4. Sure hoping the doctor has something to say. I am quite sure that based on the number of notes we receive home, his teacher filled out the questionnaires with her honest opinion. Sigh....

OP again. So just when I waffling about whether to seek the eval, we get yet another note home "I am writing this note as I was reading when I was supposed to be helping my group with our sorting project". Followed by a teacher note stating her concern about him being constantly off task, even with repeated instructions, and how she is worried he will get behind. Again, he has all "A's but, I cannot see doing this all year, every week....Sigh... Looking forward to seeing what the doc says next week.

OP here. Thanks so much everyone. I think the plan is to keep the consult with Dr. Scott. We will meet her first anyway (parents). I guess my only hesitation was that she would likely not do a full neuropsych eval, or ed. testing. I think she will be a good sounding board though, as to whether we need to delve further, or wait. Thanks for the feedback from the pp who saw her speak. When we took younger ds to her, I thought she was extremely knowledgeable, and had a nice demeanor as well. Just with the info we gave and our two visits, she was really able to tease out some subtlties with our younger ds that we had not seen. And, we are in Reston, so it is convenient too.

Oh, and to the pp regarding the test scores, I am not sure what it would look like, but I know I have seen posts somewhere, perhaps on the VA public schools thread?

Will defintely check out the 2E links. We will definitely be dealing with this again with ds 2. (though he is on an IEP and getting amazing support)

For 12:52, a friend of mine with ADD and a ADD daughter highly recommends this book on girls (ADD/ADHD often presents differently in girls than boys). You can probably find it at the library.

New poster here, I've been following this thread with interest. To follow up on OP's point about getting full IQ results, does anyone know what an "expected" WISC score breakdown would look like for a child who is in AAP but has ADD or ADHD? We had a WISC done for our DD because, despite high NNAT and CogAT scores, she's struggling to keep up in AAP. Even in Gen. Ed. she was slow on classwork and sometimes seems to space out.

I would have expected higher verbal and nonverbal scores, and lower working memory and/or processing scores on the WISC. However, DD's scores were consistently in the high to low 120s across the board (verbal and nonverbal being the highest). The scores apparently indicate that she's appropriately placed in AAP (at least on paper) but shed no light on why she's struggling. We're going to do a full neuropsych and educational eval to get more information, but unfortunately our appointment isn't until December. It would be great to get any thoughts on this in the meantime. TIA
