Curious, what does your mother think of how you dress? I am ultra casual tee shirt and jeans. I don't go out in jogging pants unless I go to the gym and wear minimal makeup. My mom when visiting always reprimands me to dress up, take more pride in my appearance. I also wonder why I can't get my DD to wear a dress, all she wants to wear is... jeans and a tee shirt.

Change that to DH's sweats or yoga pants and that's me too. I may not wear makeup, and it may not be the height of fashion, but I at least get dressed to take my kids to school.

I don't wear makeup unless I'm attending a wedding or something. I WOH. I have worn yoga pants, but not flannel PJs, in public.
I was at the playground recently and there was a woman there who had clearly spent a long time doing her hair and makeup, but she was wearing ratty old pajama pants and a worn out t-shirt. I thought it was odd you'd take the time to do up your face but not bother to change your clothes.

I WAH as well and when I drop off DD at daycare I'm generally just in jeans and a t-shirt. I've often wondered if others think poorly of me when I run into the WOH moms all dressed to the 9's. I must look rough when I'm there. But I'd rather shower when I get back home without DD hanging off my leg.

I usually wear a bit of make up (same as I did when I was working). I only wear pajamas for drop-off in the middle if winter (when running late) - nobody would know because I have a long puffy jacket that totally covers my up. The PJ's are off once I get home and get ready for the day.

This doesn't make sense... I'm happy in PJs and no make up so why should I care?

I do not wear pajamas outside of the house, however, I think this is hilarious. Your life must be practically perfect in every way if this is the type of thing that falls under the category of "totally uncalled for."

Pajamas??? No freaking way. Lots of people don't wear makeup (I don't if I'm on the way to the gym or it's the weekend), but wearing pajamas out the house is totally uncalled for.

This. I'm probably the mom you are talking about and I definitely did not notice what you or any of the other moms/dads were wearing because I don't care. I've got other things to worry about in the morning besides showering, putting on nice clothes and makeup and doing my hair. Make fun of me all you like...and grow up.
PP you quoted here... I just noticed that because I don't brush my hair everyday anymore it's much less likely to get the "straw" looks, you know? Now I get the natural curls when it's down and air dries. Looks much healthier and prettier than before.
Anyway, I'm so comfortable in this set up. Much more than the "constipation looks" that some moms get from squeezing in their skinny jeans with shoes hurting their feet while *gasp* dropping their kids at school...
Like you I barely notice others... we're in such a rush that unless someone stops to talk to me I don't get to notice what they're wearing.

I don't think it's so much that we're judging, but i feel like there are minimum standards that normal people adhere to when leaving the house. I don't think makeup is necessary, but I do feel like combing one's hair or putting it up in a ponytail are kind of the minimum. Pajamas just wouldn't fit my standards for acceptable leaving-the-house (or the car) attire if I were going to be seen in public. Seems like it would take minimal time to throw on a pair of sweatpants, yoga pants or workout pants. If someone were showing up to preschool dropoff in pj's and uncombed hair, I'd probably worry that she was depressed. But that's just me.
