Besides sleeping, the teens need quiet space so they can study and do homework. Of course the sleeping arrangements are paramount here. PLEASE update us. This seems supremely selfish of your ex and his wife!

Those laws only apply to foster children. Since the state is the ultimate guardian of those kids, they want to enforce common-sense rules. For other parents, it's assumed that we'll have common sense and provide our children with appropriate space.

OP, I'm pissed on your behalf. I *really* hope you don't just vent to us and then roll over and take it. Your 12 daughter should NOT be sharing rooms with her teen brothers. It's highly inappropriate. Teens are sexually curious at those ages and I just would not be comfortable with this arrangement at all. I'm not saying that your kids would experiment, but I just don't think this is appropriate in the least.

Don't understand why 3 & 5 y/o can't share a room. They'd probably prefer it and might even be too scared to sleep in their own spaces anyway. You have about 4 years before both of your boys are of age....perfect timing for when your ex-husband's youngest kids will need to be in separate rooms.

I personally would not allow my children to stay overnight until this matter was cleared up (if they've already moved). I'd also confirm that this is a finished basement that is being considered for bedroom space.
