Look at Pintrest. They have a great idea of taking the drop side off, sticking chalkboard paper on the base, and turning it into a desk for kids. An activity center!

They can be turned into really cute garden benches, too.

It's nice that you want to help others by giving a crib away, but as you clearly know now, it's illegal even to give it away. Stop focusing on this. Throw it in the trash and move on, for god's sake. You're missing the bigger picture that drop side cribs can kill babies. So yours is high quality and probably fine--right, we get that you're frustrated. Fine. I for one am impressed that after recalling many and then making the rest illegal to trade, the agency is following up on craigslist. Good for them.

Wow. Why are you so angry?? STFU? Really???

I have seen cribs cut down and made into benches. That's what we'll do - when I find a good carpenter

It's not illegal to sell used carseats. It's generally recommended to avoid used carseats because you don't know the history (whether it's been in a car accident), but it's not illegal.

It is illegal to use a carseat beyond its expiration date and while I don't think the Feds are going to show up to check the expiration date for any carseat sale, but I have seen hospital employees break a carseat with an axe because it was beyond the expiration date.

DH sawed our Pali drop side and then put it out for bulk pickup. Interestingly, it was his idea to saw bc he was concerned someone would use it. I was surprised by how worked up about it he was. Then I watched the scary video about what could happen to the baby.

Curbcycle. I put stuff out in front of my house and it's gone in an hour. Beat-up stroller, old dishes, crib mattress.... you name it.

There are so many families with multiple small children living in the one-bedroom apartments around here, and they really need the stuff. I saw a woman pushing a snap-and-go frame (just the frame) with a small toddler and an infant in the basket. I hope she's the one who took my ugly but serviceable stroller.

Of course, do make the crib safer before you do this; bolt the dropside in place, or whatever you had in mind.

Does the side come off to make it into a toddler bed? Could you sell it without the side?

Post on your neighborhood listserv that you have a perfectly nice Pali crib that you believe could be used by anyone safely but unfortunately find it isn't legal to sell it or even give it away!

Therefore you were wondering if anyone could take it to the landfill for you.

Yup. Ask your nanny or any of your friend's nannies.
