OP, this depends on personality. We are in a condo (although trying to move to at least a townhouse) and have to make a concerted effort to go out and find things to do so we don't go stir crazy. Folks in large houses with yards don't have so much of an issue. There are SO MANY times I wish I could just open the back door and tell the kids to go do something. Run around. Dig in the dirt. Splash in the kiddie pool.

Kids are too young, so it's not a matter of choosing to live below our means so we can have wild adventures. It's a matter of liking a certain neighborhood with a short commute and liking it more than I think I would like having a big yard and more space.

I also barely have time to care for my condo - when would I care for a yard? Find more time to vaccuum and swiffer?

The admin takes care of packages, maintenance, snow, yard work, bug control (we're in the first floor) and our unit has a concrete patio plus a grass area so the kids can play outside all year long.

That's why we have the time and $ to travel all we want.

I wouldn't trade this life for anything!

Ok, another one where I have to ask -- where do you live, please share!

We're in Chicago.

Thx for responding -- dang it, it was too much to hope something like this existed in DC!
