I was going to ask if your husband was an Xmen fan!

If it helps, tell him Bishop's first name is Lucas.

This is OP.

I just found out that X-Men is where DH originally heard the name as a teenager!

We're not religious, so there have been no connotations of pope, deacon, etc. for us. I don't think DH thinks "comic book superhero" either. He just likes the name.

Didn't end up using it because a close friend's late mother's maiden name was Bishop and I suspected she might want to use it if she has a second son. I'm not sure if she is thinking of using it as a middle or first name, but I think it sounds nice either way. Although, I am not Catholic so I don't have the "religious title" association at all. To me it is just a surname being used as a first or middle name.

At the end of the day, everyone is going to have some association with the name you choose, and unless it is their own kid's name odds are the association is either negative or goofy or undignified (e.g., I knew a ______ in high school and he was a jerk, my cousin's dog's name is _______, _________ was a character in [book, movie or tv show you've never read/seen]). Unless the name is overtly sexual or scatological, or infamous like Adolf or Saddam or Osama, you shouldn't worry about other people's associations. Go with what you like and what has positive associations for you -- no one else (besides your DH and the child himself) is going to have to live with the name every day.

OP here. That's an interesting point. It reminds me of my good friend's observation that "The name doesn't make the child. The child makes the name." Or something along those lines.

Appreciate everyone's responses.

LOL, I thought I was the only one who thought of 'Juice'. Also, I think of the robot from Aliens. I actually think it's an ok name.

It's also slang for penis.

Keep dreaming...

Nothing wrong with that!

I actually kind of like it on the right person. I've heard way worse names. . .DH's brother was almost named Urban.

What if the girl he meets is named Queen or Duchess?

Ooh, PP has a good point. And Mormond use that title pretty liberally as well.

Oh come on people, it's not that bad (and neither is Deacon, by the way). It wouldn't be my first choice but it wouldn't be my last either. Naming your son Bishop most certainly isn't going to ruin his life.

I knew a Bishop in HS, so it didn't sound odd to me. His family was Catholic, but I don't know the full meaning behind his name. I like it though.
