I think it's very pretty. I'd never heard of the TV show and Googled it -- the show ended in 1995, for goodness sake! I really don't think that show is so well known that it should factor in to your decision making. I say go for it.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that they would think OP named her child *after* the character. But, at least for me, that was the immediate association. I think that's what happens when you hear an unusual name, makes you think of any other times you may have heard it. How many people would hear Marie-Antoinette and NOT think of the French queen?

There is an older teacher at my DD's daycare with this name. It's grown on me and I think it's a nice name.

I totally think of Keeping Up Appearances and cringe when I think of that Hyacinth.

But - think it's a pretty name nonetheless.

Never even heard of the show, but find it to be an odd name, and a desperate effort to be super unique and creative. If you like flowers, then Lily, Rose, Daisy, Violet are all fairly mainstream. To me, Hyacinth is like naming someone Azalea. odd. sorry, just my opinion.

I've never met anyone under 65 who watches "Keeping up Appearances". The only reason I've even heard of it is my parents, who watch PBS constantly.

I am sheltered, I have never seen the show.

But Princess Hyacinth The Surprising Tale of a Girl who Floated is one of our most read books. I like the name. I can't imagine people would actually think you named your child after a horrible TV character. Lots of people with normal names do horrible things (Timothy, John, etc.) so WTF?!?!

How about Cia (pronounced see-ah) for a nickname? I know 2 Cias and I think it's a very pretty, feminine name.

I knew a Hyacinth growing up in the UK. She's probably in her 80's now. She was called Cinthy for short.

Don't like it. Also Hyacinth and Cynthia are 2 completely different names and not even of the same origin. I did know a Cynthia growing who we called Cyn, but the Cyn/Sin thing might bother you.
