Native Virginian here - please forgive my ignorance - what are clam bellies? I always thought clams were meatier, less slimy versions of oysters but it sounds like I'm way off.

Just read this from Martha's Vineyard--was at the Bite and also Larsen's in Menemsha today! As for Boston phrases, I am partial to "wicked pissah" for what it's worth. I live in Maryland and miss New England too. There is a truck stand that sells New England seafood in Bethesda in front of the community store on Old Georgetown Road. I believe they get daily seafood up from Maine (lobsters, etc,)--may be worth a try.

Glad to hear so many people have fond memories of the 7e's Clam Stand on Southern Artery. My father and his brother owned the clam stand and all of them worked in it at one time or another. I joined the navy and left New England in the early 60's and the clam stand was closed some time in the late 60's. My father had died and two of his brothers had moved to Florida and the other brother owned the Sevigny's Candy company which he later sold to the Washburn Candy Company.
The clams at 7e's Clam Stand were so good because the clams were fresh from the ocean and the oil in the fryers was changed weekly and God help anyone caught putting clams in a potato fryer or a potato in a clam fryer and the frying oil was kept very hot. God they were good I have never found a place with clams that good and I doubt if they have separate fryers for clams and potatoes or change the oil so frequently. Certainly haven't found a decent clam in Maryland, DC or Virginia, no bellies and a clam isn't right without a belly in my humble opinion.

It's in Woonsocket -- we stopped by over the holidays. They serve it only on Sundays.

Seriously, Ma Glockner's? Where are you from PP? My friend's family were the most recent owners. My mom said that the chicken was so flat because they ran it over with a car before they served it to you. Go Pats!

I remember 7E's! It came from the pronunciation of the owner's family name - Sevigny. I'm from that area too and am actually visiting now. My kids love the clam strips at Sullivan's (Yeah, Sully's) at Castle Island in South Boston or the Clam Box at Wollaston Beach. Sorry to say I've never found anything similar in the DC area.
