If the schools are award of this, is it possible that they use these designations to divide kids into certain math and/or reading groups? I guess I'm wondering if the schools address these issues in terms of day-to-day teaching techniques even if the county/state doesn't mandate it.

No, group assignment is on the basis of achievement. If anything, they try to spread the gifted kids around.

This. Exactly .... our home ES refused to put the "high flyers" (their term) into one class to form a peer group. My DC starts at one of the HGC next week - which is a considerable distance from our home and a hardship for our family, but will hopefully be much better situation for DC.

The state says they have to, and so they do.

We know, that link was posted already. What is the point of this testing if MCPS does not want to form groups based on ability, can anybody answer that question?

We also got results and the text statement about acellerated instruction. The only problem is that under 2.0, there won't be any accelerated instruction!

I just saw this - this is very comprehensive and shows exactly where we scored, so thank you. I just got the paper home yesterday and was struggling with understanding it. We didn't receive any information regarding the score. I just saw age 8 raw score 51 and didn't have any point of reference beyond the little matrix underneath which showed 8/42. They provided text that he was eligible for accelerated instruction, but that was pretty much it.

Thanks. My son is 8 and scored 51. I had no idea how this all worked. Looking at the chart - it shows that as 95% for 9 1/2. I assume then he must be in the top 98 or so for 8? Who knows. Anyway, regardless I am happy with our school and am not putting him in a different program.
