It is STILL closed???? We are on the waitlist but had given up thinking we would get in. Not sure we'd take a spot now even if we got it (we are fortunate to have DS in a great center now, but the cdc is much more convenient for us. Shame this has happened.

Work on the classrooms at best will start on Friday (at the earliest) and who knows how long it's going to take to coordinate all the key players to get the job done correctly. The director seems to be bumbling through this process and doesn't appear to have the concept that time is money and the classrooms being closed is terrible pr for the Center. If we're lucky, the rooms will be reopened in early August. The communication is terrible and the urgency to get the work done is even worse. No wonder why so many families are leaving and the teachers are getting incredibly frustrated.

Im sure many on the waitlist will be able to get in the 1-2 yr old rooms. I personally just took a spot at another center that called me last week. Even though my spot is not available until mid august, I do not want to send my son back to the cdc (provided they are open by mid august). I know 4 other families that are leaving.

14:23 What daycare may have such a quick spot for you? I just spoke with the Center director (I'm trying to perhaps get my one-year old son into the center in August) who said that she hopes for work to begin tomorrow (July 7) and with luck to have the center re-open by the end of July.

No news at all, so I expect the affected rooms will remain closed another couple of weeks -- likely through July. We were told work was supposed to start last week on the dry wall, but it hasn't. I know the teachers in the affected rooms are quite anxious to get back to work before they lose all their kids. Things are moving so horribly slow and information on the repairs is quite hard to come by. I know I've put my child on a waitlist for another center and have a spot waiting for him come August. Sigh.

Any update on when the Center is expected to open again for the affected rooms?

We have been told that parents in the affected rooms do not have to pay July tuition and that we will be pro-rated for the remaining days once those rooms reopen (assuming they actually open in July). My guess is, if you paid for June, you won't end up having to pay anything for July since the center shut down at the close of business on June 3rd. And then they will still owe you for additional days.

That's an interesting question re: tuition. If I remember correctly, the Center was officially closed June 1st or 2nd? The director reminded parents that failure to pay tuition constituted withdrawal. Parents were informed that July tuition would be pro-rated based on the number of days closed. I suspect, like me, other parents in the still affected rooms paid their June tuition, assuming it would reopen relatively quickly and not wanting to risk being kicked out. But I know others in affected rooms did not pay for June and, as far as I know, haven't been booted.

Hmmmm, now I'm wondering what I'm supposed to do about July tuition since my child's room is still closed and I don't see it reopening anytime soon.

Oh and, yes, in the meantime we're paying for alternate care.

Are parents still paying tuition while it is closed?

I was surprised to find that the church administrator was actually pretty reasonable once she let down her guard a bit. The director continues to act like she's a victim in all this. It may be true that some parents jumped the gun and over-reacted a bit (personally I feel this is the case) but, regardless, the director has no business behaving the way she has - it's beyond unprofessional. And even if she wants to be hostile towards the "offending" parents which I think is 100% wrong, I don't understand why she's behaving the way she is to ALL of the parents. Perhaps others have had different experiences with her (I hope they have) but I have found her to be hostile or, at best, cold.

We've been looking for other options but with waitlists what they are, it's not feasible to just move on at this point. I would love to approach the church administration (or whoever the appropriate entity is) with concerns about the director but, from what I've heard, they side strongly with her and I worry about the ramifications if it got back to her. Still, I think it would benefit everyone - church included and perhaps especially - if the director was replaced or at least held to certain standards going forward.

Hoping the promised parent-Center meeting post-full reopening is productive!

06/16/2011 18:19 - I just can't agree with you enough. At this point, after 4 weeks, and with no estimate on when the center will reopen, there's no way to make excuses for her or the church administration any longer. Their response has been wholly inadequate and does not represent any "warmth" or "community" in my opinion. It's like they just don't care.

14:52 - here's what we are being told:

They have bids to replace carpet and they are awaiting test results on the drywall to determine if mold is present. If so, they will have to get bids to replace the drywall. Absolutely nothing has been replaced in the affected rooms at the center. The rest of the center is open, but the affected rooms - including both rooms for 12-24 month olds, remain closed. Best guess is that it will still be 2-3 weeks, if not longer, for the affected rooms to reopen. But you may want to call the director and ask - the gossip is that at least a few of the families in those 12-24 month old rooms have pulled out, so there very well may be spots available once they reopen.

Does anyone know when the center plans to re-open? Our 17-month old son is on the waiting list, and we hope that he is soon granted a spot as we just found that our existing nannycare will end in early August.

Any word?

I continue to be amazed that the director remains employed. Not solely for this incident but for her inability to communicate in an appropriate and even minimally responsive way. Surely there are others who would like the job. It's not clear to me what the relationship between the church and the Center is to even know who to approach about concerns with her. It's really a shame because the teachers are fabulous and the community of families is very welcoming but the director really diminishes what otherwise is a fantastic place. If we didn't love our teachers, we'd be gone.

Sorry, lunatic know nothing, this is OP. It wasn't me that called the inspectors. And you are getting OP mixed up with another parent who dropped out. I had to scramble like everybody else to find care. I love (most) of the teachers there.
