Yay! That is so great. I did a course when I was 33yo after years of miserable horrific acne. It changed my life. So glad your DD has had such a good outcome!

I used Accutane in the 90's for extreme cystic nodular acne, that was disfiguring my face. It did work, but it took 6 months and my face was litteraly pealing off. I was diagnosed hypothyroid a few months after stopping (not sure if related) and my corneas were damaged from the dryness. I don't recommend it until all options have been exhausted.

9:27 - check out Bag Balm for your daughters dry lips. My derm recommended it and it was miracle ointment for my lips when I was on Accutane. It worked so much better than Chapstick, Aquaphor, Vaseline, etc.

I took Accutane for 6 months when I was 17. I'm 41 now and can count on one hand how many acne cysts I've had. It was a miracle drug for me. However, be warned: my doctor told me that in the first one-two months, the acne will get much worse, almost like every pimple you've ever had will show up at once. Yep, that pretty much happened. I spent many hours at the doctor's office having the cysts injected with cortisone. At the end of the treatment, the skies parted and I looked incredible. I still remember the first time I looked in the mirror and didn't want to cry. It was very emotional. I also never had many side effects except dry skin and slightly stinky armpits.

Can I get any updates on the PP's daughter who was to start Accutane in April?
Any others?
DD is giving Keflex one more go round, but if that doesn't do it, we're going with Accutane.

PP here whose daughter started in May - it was supposed to be April, but her doctor wanted to wait until she returned from a trip to Italy. So far, so good. Her skin has cleared up A LOT, but she still has a few breakouts. However, according to her doctor, she'll be on it for six months, not four as other posters have been.
Anyway, no peeling or depression, just dry lips, which she combats with all manner of chapstick, vaseline, aquaphor, etc. She's extremely pleased with the results and very encouraged that this will finally take care of her acne once and for all.
Good luck to you and yoiur daughter OP!
