They are giving up their best breeding years to establish a career? It is human nature to want to produce the strongest, fittest offspring. Waiting that late in life is not a good idea. That used to be said only to apply to women but we know it also applies to men.

You missed my point entirely. They often spend their 30's focusing on their career - ie: don't have the time or will to go out "attracting" partners. It's a choice.

They need successful careers to be able to attract a partner? Do they not have qualities besides money that would make it happen?

Um, have you graduted from high-school?

In case you haven't noticed, a lot of men in urban areas such as DC and NYC work hard and devote a lot of time to successful careers in their 30's. A lot of our male friends have done this, and once they've established themselves seem to really want to settle down - usually in mid-late 30's. There are TONS of singles in their 30's and even 40's in this area.

There's probably something really wrong with a never married, single guy in his mid-30s and older than a woman with these same stats. Because this is a man's world and if you're that old and haven't been able to commit, that's really saying something.

The bar at Bourbon in the Four Seasons has a lot of 30's/40's attractive men - and it's a really happening place for happy hours. Went with DH and some of his friends a few weeks ago - lotttts of good-looking, well-dressed men.

I'm going to Cafe Milano to see if I can meet anyone at the bar who's into fly fishing.

Not helpful. Op, never compromise it just brings dummies like PP.

I'm the dummy again.

Depends on what you're compromising on.

Able to keep steady employment and avoid alcohol/drug abuse? Sure, don't compromise on that. Yeah, and not being 300 pounds, or avoiding planning a marriage after a good first date helps.

Has to be over 6', have a full head of hair, a 30" waistline, and have near-perfect match in hobbies/interests? Yeah, might be time to ratchet down those expectations.

Like we don't know you are posting to bolster yourself. Yawn.

I think your advice is excellent--also, you sound like you have sound judgment and a great sense of humor!

So the "unless you've managed to keep your body" wasn't passive aggressive reference to her looks? BS.
