Is Ludlow seriously your 1st choice? Why? Not that its bad - it just doesn't seem like most people's first choice.

From what I hear their early childhood classes are great-my niece is in one of the classes.

I went to an open house, & really liked the principal. They have the Regio Emilio curriculum. Also, looks like they are getting a new facility for 2012. Overall, just impressed. I think you're right, after this year, it may be tougher to get in.

In bounds for Ludlow, so I'll put that last (assume I'll get in).

DCPS "elite" schools west of the park (Janney, Key, Lafayette, Mann, Murch). Some add Oyster in that category which is in Adams Morgan.

can you say why you prefer the charters? scores are about comparable to your dcps choices. culture? curriculum?

I prefer Stoke for French bilingual (unique in DC) and a very diverse student population in the lower grades -- my kid will not be the only white kid, any no one's kid will be an only, which I think makes for a much healthier education. Cap City b/c I can walk there -- and similar diversity. Haynes is is clearly a great school, second highest test scores for white students in the city -- and diversity.

OP, If you are interested in Immersion, there is a parent run bus from Capitol Hill to Yu Ying. There are kids who live in Ward 7 who ride it since it makes commuting downtown easy.

Curious first poster at the geographic range. Capital hill and Upper Northwest? I am a bit stressed about my list because I will be traveling about 45 minutes each way. How are others thinking about the drive issue?

OP here. I know it's a wide geographic range, but these are the schools I liked the most. For example, I did not like the other schools on Capitol Hill, nor did I like all of the JKLM's, regardless of the hype. So, wherever we get accepted, I'm open to the commute. Capitol Hill would be the closest, though.

OP again. Also, I'm not in bounds for any of them. I live in Ward 7.
