Finally got our 1st grader's NNAT scores in the mail today. Hope the rest of those waiting get them today too!

Seriously...people need to stop asking if their kid "has a chance."

Technically, I suppose everyone "has a chance." But whether or not they will be accepted into the AAP program is dependent on several factors.

great test scores
a high GRBS rating (which is dependent on the child working above grade level and consistently showing "gifted" behavior traits)
Good work samples that show high ability and higher level thinking
and the approval of the committee

Depending on the other factors, high test scores can mean a lot, or very little...and low test scores can mean a lot, or very little.

My daughter (first grade) got 129 on the NNAT2. Does she have a chance?

I HAVE SPOKEN WITH 3-4 PARENTS WITH KIDS IN THE FIRST GRADE, AND ALL OF THEM HAVE TOLD ME THAT THE SCORES ARE EXTREMELY LOW, NOT WHAT THEY EXPECTED!!!

Not to worry...there is the whole appeals process and cogat in the 2nd grade. If your child scores above the benchmark in any of the cogat sub tests, then they could be in the pool.

We recd our daughter's NNAT scores yesterday, I have to say I was very dissapointed, he scored 119 and in the 88%.
He is 1 grade level higher in math and reading (confirmed by both KG and First grade teacher) and has been recommended for advanced math and reading clubs in his school.
He is very creative and extremely smart, not sure if he could make the pool next year with these scores:

I guess I should be happy that my school sent out the pool letter last week. They're not exactly quick with the 2nd grade scores. The holiday and the snow day did not help at all. It sounds like the school office finally finished whatever they have to do and the letters went today to FCPS to have the postage put on the envelopes. If the letters were together, this wait would be even worse. i'm hoping for tomorrow, but I'd guess Saturday or Monday would be more likely.

instead of whining you could start the parental referral package now. in-pool doesn't mean you're in, so if you felt strongly enough you'd take actions already.

My kid's a first grader, so no need to start the referral package yet. If the CogAT scores are this delayed next year, I certainly will get started on the referral packet if I need to. It's just ridiculous that some schools sent the scores out two weeks ago, and some haven't even bothered to get around to it yet.

Think of it this way - a child is only compared to other students his age. A first grader with a May 2004 birthday might get a 41 out of 48 right which would equate to a 130 (pulling numbers out of the air here). But a 2nd grader with a May 2003 birthday would need to get a 45 out of 48 to get that same score of 130. Basically, the older a child is, the more he needs to get right on the test to get that 130 score. Both would have 130 scores. A younger child just needs to get fewer right to get the same score.

NNAT is an ability test, not an achievement test.

A child who scores 130 in 1st grade would be expected to have a similar score in 2nd grade.
