Dr. Weber did 3 root canals on me. He is excellent! I refer ALL my patients to him - I am a dentist myself, and ironically, a complete chicken when it comes to dental work. He is very good with anesthesia. Highly recommended.

Make sure you see an endodontist. When people have bad experiences it is often because they go to a regular dentist who doesn't do root canals often, doesn't have the right equipment and isn't good at them.

Dr Tony Hsu of Bethesda did mine. It was an emergency and my son's pediatric dentist referred me. She said that's where she had her root canal. They took me the same day. It was painless and he was gentle. He answered all my questions and I never felt rushed. His staff was friendly and pleasant. Overall, an extremely well run office.

Dr. Gael Delaney in Friendship Heights. Another endodontist did my root canal and messed up - left some of the root in, I was in pain, he did nothing but prescribe pain meds. Dr. Delaney redid the root canal, and he was great. I'm a baby, hate needles, but I never felt the shot with him. I don't think he takes insurance.

I've had 2 but was doped up - I'd never get through it without being loopy. Valium and laughing gas is the only way I was able to get throughmit.

If the gum around the tooth is not inflamed, they really are no big deal. Never have been. A root canal can be easier than a filling. However, if the area around the tooth is inflamed and infected, the nerve can be almost impossible to deaden -- that's where the horror stories come from.

I loved loved loved Dr. Gamson!! Honestly the best dental experience I've had and I was so afraid. The office is so efficient and he is truly kind and patient. I've had 2 root canals with him and both were such good experiences.

Don't worry... if I were you I would definitely do the "gas". You will have no sense of time at all and will likely enjoy the whole experience! It's awesome stuff for dental procedures. Just be sure the dentist offers it. Insurance doesn't cover usually and it's about $100. Also, once it's turned off you are back to normal in about 10 minutes with no lasting effects and can drive home.
