Because jurisdictions won't be bothered to do anything until something tragic happens. It happens with dangerous intersections (stop lights or other measures aren't taken until someone dies) and other issues.
Constituents can complain but they'll be a vocal minority until something happens to spark outrage. Right now, the e-bikes are a foolish nuisance which isn't enough to get the government to act.

In Arlington they are not just on the trails. Literally packs of 5-10 at times - particularly on Wilson near 7 corners to barcroft seems to be a bit hangout for the motocross types. They must ride off road somewhere in that area and use the roads as needed.
The bikes range in size to almost 125-225cc size motorcycles.
Cops literally do nothing when they block intersections or ride wrong way on the streets.

I can't wrap my head around adults who think they're accomplishing something by doing this??? Their fat asses might as well sit in a lazy-boy chair instead of terrorizing everyone on sidewalks and pathways.
They may be accomplishing necessary transportation? My admittedly uncharitable assumption is many of them are license-restricted due to DUI history, but perhaps I'm just salty at the multiple times my dog has nearly been run-down by the silent speedsters on sidewalks.
No, not that at all. I see the same people on the same trails every day, speeding by back and forth. They're not running errands.
Interesting. It seems the people I see in various uniform + work attire might be different people than those you encounter. Who'd a thunk?
