Do you ACTUALLY sleep 9 hours a day? I have never met an adult human being that spent that much time in bed.

He's been waking up at 5:45 regardless of when we put him to sleep. I basically need to be in bed by 9:30 if I'm going to get 8 hours a night because he's not sleeping past then.
It's not due to having to go potty really bad because he literally walks around the house for 10 minutes looking for anything going on before he'll even allow me to take him outside. And then he takes his time to go potty even then.
I might try to make a sound to let him know it's not time to wake up. The issue is at that point it's hard to go back to sleep.
You didn't address the issue that almost 9 hours in a crate for a puppy is a long time and unrealistic that the puppy won't get restless.
Are you wearing the puppy out before one last pee, then crate? My experience with puppies is that they sleep hard in spurts all day long.
This, especially if the puppy is crated during the day too.
Above was in response to this. And no he’s not crated during the day.
