As a teacher, I have seen this work for some kids. You just need to be be very selective about the private school. Avoid the “Christian Academy” type. This is not to say avoid all religious schools. Many are strong.
I agree with this. We went to Christ Episcopal School (CES) in Rockville and might as well have just done public all along.
In what way? I know someone with a kid there who raves about the small class sizes and tons of individual attention their kid gets
So small that there is no point of comparison, so you don't know your kid as not as smart/brilliant as the school would have you believe. Trust me. If there are six kids in a class, the "smartest" kid is the smartest of six. And of those six, a couple of kids might have mild learning disabilities and are there because they would struggle in a regular sized classroom. If there are 23 kids in a class in MCPS, the smartest kid is the smartest of 23 and they have standardized testing to back it up.
