Why didn’t they get a second room?

If he bought a rope he's been planning it for a while.

Vacations are dangerous with deeply depressed people.

A vet we knew took his life on a Disneyworld trip...lots of people this year have done the same.

I hope they find him soon but it’s been seven days. Even if he only got lost in the forest (per the mother’s latest Facebook update), it’s a long time without food and limited water.

The mother initially posted on Reddit about the rope.

Oh I was hoping that this was an AI hallucination. He seemed to be one of these people who are super concerned about the environment. I fear that he may have done something very foolish.

or he used it for survival/climbing.

Is he neurodivergent?

Are you asking if he is autistic?

Reportedly yes. What does that matter?

Very sad, assume he bought rope at hardware store.

My heart goes out to his gamily, esp his surviving young brother.

I can’t imagine why anyone traveling with family or friends would venture off alone.

I was mildly annoyed when I discovered over breakfast in Italy that my teens left the hotel late at night for a walk and some drinks, but at least they weren’t alone. (And they are tall young men who know better than to put themselves in danger, so they didn’t wander too far and we were in a very nice area.)

My DH and I travel to Europe with our 22 and 19 YO sons at least once a year. Very often, we split up during the day because we want to do different things. My kids have grown up in cities and they have a lot of street smarts, plus we stay connected on Life 360 and we typically meet up for lunch or dinner. Or when they want me to meet them at Zara with the credit card.

I would think nothing of this with a kid that age.

You would think nothing of just one of your kids leaving on his own and not telling you where they were going?

Because like you, I wouldn’t worry about my teens going off somewhere nearby together. But that’s very different from someone disappearing on their own abroad.

Japan is very safe

Except for the suicides.

Yeah, I'm hoping he went off to have a solitary experience in nature and will be found safe.

Some of the described activities, the hiking the Pyrenees, half an Ironman, etc seem like a lot for a 20 year old student? A reporter asked if he could swim and got the triathlete story. Everything seems a little over the top. I hope this has a good ending but I fear he is gone.

What? 20 is when your body is in tip top shape and can do those things, PP. And maybe he doesn't work in the summer and has that kind of time. What a strange comment. This is not over the top in any way. But it increases the chances that he could be found alive. I hope.

The family of 4 adults had been sharing a hotel room with 2 twin beds so I imagine poor sleep contributed to the bickering. His IG is full of photos in nature. If he bought rope I think a sad ending is likely.
