I'm sure dismantling USAID and pretty much every public health agency in the U.S., and taking us out of WHO hasn't helped.
Fine, you pay for it. Go ahead, put your money where your mouth is.
I suspect most Americans would rather their tax dollars pay for disease control that keeps them safe than Trump’s billion dollar ballroom, his brand new Qatari jet and his billion dollar slush fund to reward his supporters who were “wronged” by the government who had the audacity to insist they pay their taxes and not destroy the Capitol building and kill Capitol police officers.

We should be paying for the health programs that have existed for decades. Happy to have my tax dollars go there. Instead doge gutted the Ebola task force at no net savings and as PP posted, our tax dollars are going to corrupt and horrible expenditures. I’d add to the above list hiding Israel’s wishes in Iran.
Don't forget his slush fund for insurrectionists.
Millions of people will die due to the USAID cuts and it demonstrateably makes Americans less safe from disease outbreaks.
I'm actually much more concerned about drug resistance and TB long term than I am Ebola, but this demonstrates why global public health matters. Disease does not know borders and the whole knee-jerk response to shut down travel isn't a viable long term strategy.
If it's a global issue why does it require a uniquely US response? Where are all the other countries that are so much better than we are, are they helping?
DP here: Why does saying that the US should participate imply a "uniquely US response".
The US should participate in keeping the world safe from deadly viruses. Other countries should too. I vote in the US, so obviously I am most interested in the US response, since that's where I can make an impact.
Who else is participating and what exactly are they doing? Are they forcing their people to get vaccinated?

You don’t care about human suffering?
If you are that selfish, you might want to know it has a 40% death rate and it’s a horrible way to die. And we are not immune.

There is no vaccine for this strain of Ebola, and the cost to develop and test a vaccine is very high.
The USA used to have professionals on the ground in these regions, and could have spotted this earlier before the spread or provided help to other countries to transport tests or supplies.
The US is providing funding, aid, and coordination. Groups have been tracking this. It’s not coming out of nowhere.

Dulles Airport and Ebola Travel Restrictions
The U.S. government has ordered all U.S.-bound flights from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Uganda, and South Sudan to land only at Washington–Dulles International Airport for enhanced Ebola screening following a rapidly spreading outbreak.
No visa-based travel from those countries either. Lockdown starting and we have to hope it’s not too late.

Fighting over who should pay while millions die is a fantastic strategy.
The US learned a long time ago there was a huge amount of power in reputation and soft power. It kept us strong throughout the world. Trump killed that quite quickly

They should have enforced a lockdown much sooner in terms of travel bans.
The last time we had an Ebola scare the Lightbringer was in charge and he refused to do any sort of travel ban from the Fatherland. And everyone was a-ok with that decision even when Ebola patients were vomiting on American sidewalks.
