I took my mom to see Blondie a few years ago when she was at the Anthem.
My mom loved her voice - but it was not a thing she had the opportunity to due growing up. My mom and dad worked to put food on the table and provide the absolute basics for the family.
I have taken my kids to see some shows now (Bruce Springsteen, Taylor Swift, David Byrne)

My mom took me to a New Kids on the Block concert when I was 12 and it was probably the highlight of that year of my life.

No, I didn't. I'm very into concerts as an adult and go frequently anywhere from small up and coming artists to major ones. DS also shares my enthusiasm and we've been going to 6 or so shows together since he was 11. Music and concerts are now a great way for me to connect with a typical teenager.

I am 57 and NEVER went to concerts w/either of my parents…..

Mostly because we didn’t share the same taste in music.
I would be rocking out to Pat Benatar while my parents were dancing to the “Golden Oldies” in the living room.

But I do know some of my adult friends who do attend concerts w/their adult children.
But I don’t know anyone who attended w/their kids when their kids were still teens.

I find it cool though.

No but I don't care, setting a precedent and taking my kids to see Sting at Wolf Trap on Friday!!!

My 13 year old self was always very confused by that lyric. In fact, my 46 year old self still doesn't understand how you can do it with both people asleep.

My parents would never take me. I went with friends starting in HS. DS and I LOVE going to concerts together. We like a lot of the same music and once in a while he “drags” me to something he likes. He’s 15 and it’s a great way to spend time together, sometimes making it into an overnight road trip.

25 years ago, we took our toddler to see the Barney Concert. Period.

Classical music, broadway type plays, music festivals— yes, occasionally. Rock concerts? No, never. Neither my parents nor I went to those with anyone. I don’t really remember any friends going to them, either. We didn’t live very close to places that would host rock concerts.

I have teen/tween kids now, and we’ve taken them to the ballet, broadway shows, orchestra, but no rock concerts. So far they haven’t asked or been interested.

Parents took me to an outdoor Arlo Gutherie free concert but nothing else.

I just took my kid and 5 of her friends to Bruno Mars - it was amazing. I sat separately but remember when concerts used to have that parent room to wait for their kids.

I love concerts but my parents weren't into them. That's why I take my kid - I like going. But I'm fine with her going with friends when she is older.

I think back to my youth and I never went to any concerts with my parents, nor did I want to. Did you?

If you also think this is more prevalent now, do you think it is more prevalent because kids are closer to their parents than back in the day? Or because parents are more protective?

I think this is more about age/attitudes about adult behavior than “closeness”. I went to a bunch of concerts in the 70s with my very young, hippie parents. I took my own kids to a few concerts (I assume you mean rock/pop, rather than classical), but it would take a lot to get me to a rock concert now. Most parents in earlier decades would have looked askance at real adults going to concerts with weed, etc.
