I think UVM is one of the schools that has dropped since we (I am in my mid-fifties) applied to colleges. Doesn't mean it is a bad school. Just not what it once was. Trinity is another example.

You never see touse kids out there constantly seeking things to be outraged about, and even bouse kids have much better social options than holding up signs and doing the same tired hey hey ho ho chants. When people like the PP say they don't want "woke" campuses, they mean they don't want that kind of environment to predominate.

It's hard to take anything you say seriously when you constantly use terms like the ones in bold. You sound like either a college freshman or a middle-aged wine mom who can't face getting older and so you have a desperate need to prove to your own college freshman DC that you're still "hip".

It got pretty bad during and just after Covid. It has improved significantly from that low and didn't seem like a big deal during my visits over the past 18 months.

It was originally considered one but it isn't on the current list released by Forbes. According to them it's Michigan, Wisconsin, W&M, Florida, Air Force Academy, Georgia Tech, UVA, UNC, and Texas. For whatever that's worth. (They left off UC schools because they don't take SATs.)

There was a very recent thread that might be worth exploreing...someone asking DCUM to talk them into being ok with UVM as their kids first choice that might be helpful. Part of the origina; "public ivy" designation. A great smaller state school in a lovely state. Worth a visit and you will probably know quickly whether the vibe suits or not.

I think any student -- or really, any person, frankly -- who is constantly evaluating whether or not something is "woke" probably has a personality/character defect and based on that isn't likely to fit in anywhere. What a miserable existence to have such a mindset.

I believe OP is referring to University of Vermont's inclusion in a 1988 book entitled, "The Public Ivies." Others in that book included Michigan, Miami University in Ohio, UVA and William and Mary among others.
A lot has changed since 1988. That includes whether some of those institutions still qualify and use of the phrase itself to apply, randomly, to other institutions.
