Subject: Worth it to move from "bad" school pyramid to Marshall?

We had kids at Marshall and I would not go out of my way to move from the Falls Church pyramid for Marshall. Our kids know some kids from Falls Church and they did fine taking Honors and AP courses there.

Marshall is an IB school, which is a program implemented by FCPS to help improve historically lower performing schools by attracting students from stronger schools to attend and participate in the program. The stronger schools all offer AP programs.

Marshall parent here. My kid is doing well and has found a solid group of friends. Lots of kids at Marshall are academically oriented. Lots and lots of writing expected starting from 9th grade honor classes. Welcoming/solid music department. Can’t speak for sports but I don’t think Marshall is really known for their sports teams? The thing to consider is whether you are ok with IB. But honestly OP-most FCPS schools have a solid group of students who are into academics. Talk to parents whose kids actually attend Jackson MS and Falls Church HS. You will get much better feedback than from snotty DCUM parents.

I’m guessing all replies are from non-Falls Church and non-Marshall parents. OP according to DCUM only five high schools are acceptable (Langley, McLean, Oakton, Madison, and Woodson) so take all feedback with a grain of salt.
