The manager is so selfish and incompetent. If he can’t manage without making his employees slaves, he should not be in a manager position. he should be the first one get RIFed.

Go to your HR person. He isn’t allowed to deny you your leave - it’s part of your compensation package so it’s akin to not paying you.

This. How is anyone supposed to be able to plan and book a vacation if they have no idea whether or not they will get the time off. I work in an industry where only X number of people can be off at a time because things have to be staffed and it's not like we can pick up the slack of when someone is out. He also denied another request that I submitted 11 months ahead of the vacation. He waited 5 months to deny that second request. I've paid for both vacations already.
