65 and never did weed or any drug. I don't know many people around age who never did. But that's a guess. But I also can not think of anyone now, that I know for sure, that does any drugs, especially as a parent or an adult.

45

1 I hate smell of weeds. It gives me headache. I had some patients who just smoked weeds or had weeds smell come to see me in clinic. It just gave me migraines attack.

2 long term associated with depression. Not to mention psychosis.
Therefore the only appropriate use is for pain control in terminal cancer patients. Because they are dying soon anyway. It helps up life their feeling temporarily and they will die before long term problems kick in. With that said, I don’t use them in my field of practice .

I’m from the Just Say No! era.

Self-medicating seems risky. I’d seek healthier ways to address your issues.

I’m 54. I used to be ok with weed until a good friend’s son smoked so much that it has basically trigger schizophrenia and I’ve seen the journey her family has been on dealing with that.

As for psychedelics, I am all for continuing to research their benefits to treating ptsd, depression, et al.

I’m around the same age. My brother was like your son, but was diagnosed schizophrenic. I almost never smoked pot and rarely drink. He smoked a lot. We do have schizophrenia in our (at least one other member has it, but she doesn’t drink or do drugs). I believe pot made my brother that way he is, more than genes that we both share. My husband also smokes regularly, which I hate, but he is naturally high strung and it makes him tolerable, even to himself. I do not want our kids to do it or even try it. From both my brother and husband, I know it’s addictive and worse, it has the potential to ruin a life.

Late 40s and a lawyer married to another lawyer. I don’t know anyone who does this, or at least, who admits to doing this.

I have two different chronic pain conditions, so I don’t judge people trying anything to reduce their pain, but I have no interest in going down the particular path you are on.

Really agree with this. I don't care what people do at home in private but hate that legalization has turned us far backwards in terms of public smoking.

And a lot of government employees who won't risk their jobs. I'm drug test-able.

This. Where do you live OP? This board is mostly DC area people who work for or with the government. Maybe drug use is more socially acceptable where you live (out west?), but not here.

I’m 48. I tried drugs in high school. Not my thing.

Drugs aren’t cool. I don’t care what others do but I would not want to be around.

How long do you expect you will continue to do this, OP?

Most of the people I know (working professionals, fellow teachers, normal people around my age) do these. Most of us don't drink much at all. This board freaked out when I mentioned weed once, so I want to know, how old are you guys?

PTSD bro?

Late 50s who experimented with all kinds of everything while in college - people would be shocked if they knew. Then I grew up.

A little experimentation is fine for youth, but if you are using it to heal yourself, or to escape reality, it's time to find some other tool

57 Just no interest at all. I drank when I was younger socially but no interest anymore. I have never smoked a single cigarette.

58. Enjoyed a few drugs in college and drank to excess in my unmarried 20s.

I don’t comment much on DCUM. However! I have a lot of firsthand experience with substance-dependent adults due to my job working with active duty and retired military. A lot. A LOT with PTSD diagnoses.

And it’s crystal clear toe that a lot of DCUM users are dependent on drugs. It’s my educated belief that most would be better served by not self medicating with recreational drugs.

Supervised, controlled ketamine administration is an entirely different approach than getting high every single day to silence the demons.
