Historically Wake was less appealing to northern kids but that has been changing. Wake and Tulane are probably a bit more social than Emory.
Hard disagree. Wake and Emory historically ranked in the same 20-30 group by US News for most of the last 3 decades and that includes the ten years Emory admitted to fudging its data. They take the same level of kids at our private. Tulane is a very good school but I’d put it a tier down with Miami.
Wake booster? Any this is delusional, this is Wake's first year having an acceptance rate below 20%. Wake doesnt even release their ED stats, add the 36% transfer acceptance rate. Don't make competition where there isnt one
I don't see many people applying to Emory and Wake. Different schools with different vibes. You can claim Emory is better all day (and it may be, I don't know), but there's very little overlap in the fit venn diagram for these two I think.
What are you talking about? I guarantee there is a ton of overlap. Similar sized schools in the southeast with roughly similar academic profiles, both with undergrad business programs and affiliated with good medical centers. I am sure there is a ton of overlap. Wake has better sports. Emory is in a bigger city. Not huge differences. When we visited Wake we met several families who literally were going straight from there to see Emory (potentially with a stop at Davidson, though that is a significantly smaller school).

I’m no Emory booster but Emory has a higher median SAT/ACT and is a much more diverse + healthcare focused place than Wake. Sports are also big at Wake but most Emory students couldn’t care less. I would expect some overlap but not a ton.

Got in RD to both Wake and Lehigh with merit money. Had top rigor (12 APs, including BC junior and Physics C senior) and 1550+. Showed lots of DI, including visiting both and writing super targeted essays. (Did not want to risk yield protection.)
Wake and Lehigh are great schools. We consider them to be equals and would have been happy to see her at either one. But she chose one of her reaches instead.
