Does he have kids? I am 49 and if I was still living in the first house I bought when I was 28 for $326K, or even the second house I bought at 34 for $440K, I would be living well on a $120K salary. My mortgage is still pretty reasonable because we bought our current home 10 years ago but in my first house, my mortgage was like $1,500 a month. Maybe this guy bought before house prices went crazy and doesn't need a lot of money. I make $160K and could easily take a pay cut to $120K and still be fine. I also went to college when it cost $10K a year to go in-state so I have zero college loans.

Most single, childless people in their 40s and 50s are doing a lot better than people born 20 years later. Life got really expensive really fast.

No issues with the salary. As long as he is financially stable and responsible, it isn't an issue for me. I am financially stable and responsible and so that is far more important to me. We would each be able to afford similar standards of living which is great for dating.

Sure. That's almost double what I make. But I also own properties and am not interested in co-mingling money, so as long as he supports himself, no problem.

$120k a year doesn’t seem bad. DH and I each make that amount as teachers and we are a little older.

Yes. My husband is that age and makes that. I make about twice as much. But he saved so much $ over the years and contributed more to our down payment. And bought real estate early in his career that we rent out and make $ on. He can also be home by 3:30 and get the kids from the bus and take them to activities etc etc. It's a partnership and I was never looking for someone to fund my lifestyle.

If people are only dollar signs to you, and you're that shallow, then move on. Maybe you'll find an alpha who puts you on his rotation for ten years, steals the rest of your youth, and you end up all alone. Up to you.

Thats fine op, are you compatible in other areas? If you are worried because you out earn him, its fine if you enjoy each other. The only red flag is if he has massive debt (or if you do!)
