You are in luck! Materials science engineering is at tons of schools and is generally an easier engineering admit than some other more popular options. UIUC specifically suggested indicating Materials Science as the second major choice for my electrical engineering prospective student as the intro classes are the same across majors and once there he could switch if he still wanted to. I say go for it!

Hot tip- if you can figure out a good way to turn corn into something useful you will be a billionaire.

I work in ag research. Corn is done-to-death and we grow too much. And you can't add it to fuel- it burns too hot and ruins your combustion engine. Now we need other uses: biological packaging especially.

I believe even Georgetown may have a new Materials Science program.

Wisconsin, Georgia Tech, Cornell, Michigan, Ohio State etc. plenty of great schools.

Northwestern, UC Santa Barbara, Illinois all have top programs in addition to MIT.

But you’ll find smaller gems at schools like UMass, UMD, Penn State, University of Pennsylvania.

You are an idiot

Materials science is super popular right now given many of the constraints around AI are physical (atoms not bits)

People like you should be the first to slaves to the Chinese when they take over
