I dont really understand golf culture, but I'm always shocked during the high school auctions that ALL the golf outings up for bid would go for 2500-5k.

A round of golf for you and a friend with a stranger aka Chilton Prep parent '02 is worth 5K? Okay!

my kids SLAC doesnt have club golf but has a golf club associated where they can play for 100 a year.

My son took his clubs to school and plays periodically with friends (some from his frat, others aren’t).

He’s also gone fishing a few times (some friends have gear).

And. But you get my point. A lot of social networking goes on golf courses.

I don't play golf very often because my back was severely injured as a teen. I get a bit of discomfort from swinging enough to not want to regularly play or enjoy it. But I'll do it once in a while, stuff like work events or for a wedding party. Or on vacation with an avid golfer that doesn't to go alone on a resort course.

One thing I noticed, there is a ton of down time and waiting around in golf and over 4 hours, everyone pretty much tells their life story to complete strangers and if you ever see them again, you are like old lost friends.

I get why golf is so good for networking.

Lots of kids at Fairfield golf on the weekends.

Every dorm room I lived in at W&M in the 1980s would have had room for a golf bag. As a PP noted, if nothing else, you could stash them under your bed. But they could also just stand against the wall. They take up, what, a square foot?

If your kid happens to not be 18, sign up for a Youth on the Course membership. I think it’s valid until they turn 19.

You get like $5 greens fees at thousands of courses throughout the country.

JMU--yes. However, DS didn't bring his clubs until he had a car and keeps them in his trunk.

Mine plays in college with friends- they love it and all have their own clubs.

Yes, both of my DS' played/play golf in college for fun. My older one graduated last year. His last semester, he was only taking two courses so I think he was playing more golf than going to class!

My youngest is a junior in college and just joined the college club golf team - not to play with them, but to get some discounted membership at the local course. He doesn't have classes on Friday and I think he's been golfing every Friday.

Both didn't play much their first two years because they didn't have a car on campus - made it difficult to get to a course.
