We attended Berwyn Heights Day and heard Friends Community School has space.

Have you called Grace Episcopal in Kensington? Lovely small school that emphasizes curiosity and belonging. Nurturing, engaged teachers. Happy, thriving students.

In MCPS, for example, they do regular DIBELS screenings in the early grades and have switched to evidence-based reading instruction.

My kid is in MCPS and we are happy overall, but if OP is looking for better communication between school and families I can't recommend MCPS.

The problem is that any learning differences will be discovered too late. While the philosophy appears to work for some students, I have many serious concerns.

Not disagreeing with the school quality, but the commute from Bethesda to Arlington is an absolute bear! Especially if you have to turn around and come back or re-enter the city... OP's kid may be happy, but they won't be...

So true! At first I was concerned that my kid's school was nearly nonexistent in the threads and then I spent a little time on here and realized that was a very green flag 🤣
