Yes in 90s when I was in school. Kids would bring a visiting relative to school. I taught HS for 2 years and parents could pop in too and spend the class/day with their kid - it was actually a threat for the kids who didn’t behave.

It's usually allowed in elementary because the child is a minor, but you need to get the teacher/principal permission. I allowed it when I was a teacher in MCPS but my principal was also fairly reasonable. A lot of principals are toxic and self serving.

My friend came to hang out at my high school when I was a kid. It was not official. I want to say she had the day off and we had school. She may have gone to one class with me and basically roamed around the cafeteria and library. There was no security.

I vaguely remember it in the 70's.

I did and grew up in the 80’s in South Texas. Once my cousin stayed with us for a week when his parents went out of town. He went to school with me. It was cool because the boys liked him and I got cool points.

My husband would attend school for three weeks in his home country every couple years. He’d just enroll and they’d have him as a bit of a curiosity for all the fun end of year sorts events and parties.

I attended public school in a small town in Ohio in the 80s and 90s. A few times people had a friend or relative who was close in age attend school with them for a day or two. One day, one of my teachers brought his kid, who attended a local Christian school, to our school for a day so she could see what public school was like.

I was just telling DS about this the other day, he couldn't believe it was a thing! I had several friends in the early to mid 90s come with me to school for the day, they were all from out of state visiting and wanted to see what my middle and high school were like. It was really fun. When I was in high school I visited my cousins in Mexico and went with them to school for 3 days. It was a British International school that did IB. I was fascinated by everything and remember there were a lot of cute boys, lol.

I went to FCPS in the 90s. I never saw this happen.

I’m now a teacher. I can’t imagine it happening now, either. Just getting a classroom speaker involves tons of paperwork.

Yep. Most public schools are very strict about visitors. This might be something to try with a small private school instead. They would probably make the parents sign a bunch of waivers though.

I was planning to have my niece and nephew visit my sons’ school this fall. It is indeed a small private school and I think they’d allow it. They live in Japan so it would be an interesting cultural thing.

When I was in 10th grade (93?) my sister was getting married. Her FSIL was in 12th grade and wanted to go to school with me. She hooked up with 3 guys in my school that day. It was mortifying. This was on Long Island.

For liability reasons there's no way this would be allowed today.

This sounds different-like they actually enrolled temporarily while living with them which would make sense. That’s obviously not the same.
