Hopefully there is a 90 day period and they can be let go as a bad fit. If you have any hallway conversations about it remember that this person did not quit a job to come here. If there is anyone who wants them gone but feels (inappropriately) guilty about that decision.

Op here - they hired the person who was conveniently available to start right away. Just sat in a meeting and they took over, threw everyone under a bus with zero understanding of anything and been at the company for 2 days. So, yeah, this is a new low… interviews well, kiss up/kick down, total nightmare in seat. Not a cheap hire either….

I have a friend like this. Super charismatic. Can talk his way into or out of anything. But when you work with him, you recognize he only has two speeds. Sweet talk and cooperation when he gets his way. And belligerence and intransigence when he doesn't. No in between.

Disagree with all the weirdos who say it is impressive. It's a red flag that something is very wrong with this person.

Yes, sometimes fit at a company is bad, company politics, company loss of revenue, personal life upheavals, etc.. but there should have been a few experiences that stuck. And to see a project from inception to end takes more than 1 year. This person is only contributing and not leading any particular project. That is fine when young but at 50?

In my industry, at 50 people do start to get pushed out because the expectation is that you are bringing in work to the company at that point. Expectations are higher at this age.

I would assume the person is flighty and lacks self-awareness, because self-awareness would tell them to edit their resume and not showcase that many jobs in that window, as if it were a badge of honor.

A year is when it becomes obvious that you are incompetent/not good at a job/has serious personality flaws. So I guess that’s when he jumps ship

In my industry, it typically takes 6 mo. to a year for someone to get fired if they make a token attempt to improve. This is true even if they are terrible at the job and contribute no value.
No jobs with a 2+ year tenure? Huge red flag.

If they were impressive they would have moved up the chain at one of those 20 jobs. Instead of job hopping — hate those folks.

Just go to the crazy people's place and get one from there. And what kid of idiot puts all 20 on their resume.
