I grew up in an area where hunting was common as were shooting sports. I would say yes (presumably your kid knows about the hunting) and they are locked up and could add that the kids won't be in rooms where they are kept.

30-40 % of American households have guns. Your kids have been in houses with guns - you should be talking about safety with them.

If your family owns guns, you shouldn’t act like you’re ashamed of it. You need to answer honestly and it doesn’t have to be in a huge amount of detail, but lying would absolutely be the worst thing you could do. Something like;

Hi X, yes we have guns that are locked away either in biometric safe or safe that requires a code. Happy to chat if helpful. We also would understand if this means that Johnny is not able to come for the sleepover. Hope he can join for some portion of the evening.
