Y'all we are graduating kids who don't speak any English. Like, at all. A kid with dyscalculia will be just fine.

Most states have some sort of exemption for special ed students with an IEP. For example, Florida requires Algebra 1, English 10 and Civics. Any student can substitute SAT EBRW 480, ACT English/Reading Average 18, or 36 on CLT Verbal Reasoning/Grammar for English or SAT Math 420, ACT Math 16, or 11 on CLT Quantitative Reasoning for Algebra 1. Any student can do a retake on either test; special ed students can graduate without a retake as long as they "did their best" on the first try... we were told by the homebound student that all DC had to do was write their name and hand it back to him if it was a high anxiety day and would lead to a meltdown if actually trying.

We gave different types of diplomas for different types of students. Employers should be able to look at a standard diploma and expect the student to do a certain amount of math. If your kid just can’t, then there are diplomas that reflect that. It’s hard to live a child that struggles. I deeply love a child who struggles. That doesn’t mean that I want him in jobs where he cannot be successful.

But none of this will matter with AI…

ELA and writing standards are so dumbed down now that they barely read books or write papers in AP classes.

Soon it will be enough to play patty cake with proficiency to pass hs math.

I would actually say schools are disableist bc the lack of true mental rigor will make weak minded non disciplined students that resemble having an intellectual disability. Kind of like when all these kids have A's in Spanish but still cannot communicate in Spanish. It's like, how did you you get an A?
